What is Rise with SAP?

My YouTube video explaining the concept of Rise with SAP

Rise with SAP is a hot topic at the moment and SAP has been recommending their customers to move to Rise with SAP in the recent times.

But what is Rise with SAP? That is what we are going to discuss in this blog.

If you are new here, my name is Aroon. I make videos & write blogs about SAP topics. Please subscribe to the blog to keep up to date.

Introduction:

Firstly, Rise with SAP is not a product but it is a solution which contains a bunch of SAP software applications that will help the larger companies to move to the cloud. The applications that are included as part of Rise revolves around six key areas of the business.

They are

  • Cloud ERP which would be SAP S/4HANA
  • Business Process Optimisation
  • Extension, integration and automation
  • Advanced financial management
  • Supplier network
  • Sustainability management.

The key point about Rise is that all these solutions including the cloud hosting is included as part of one contract and one subscription license model. So, the customers when choosing to go with Rise, do not have to sign multiple contracts with multiple vendors. It will be relatively easy to kick start the SAP Cloud journey without going through the complexities of dealing with multiple vendors and negotiating the contract for everything.

Also, traditionally, the above picture represents how the SAP operating model looks like for the customers. The customers will manage their Infrastructure, Software & Support is provided by SAP, Advisory, Application Managed Services and Technical Managed Services are looked after by either the customer themselves or by their support partner.

But in the Rise with SAP model, SAP looks after the Technical Managed Services (TMS), Software license, Support and the Infrastructure. SAP or the customer’s support partner can provide Advisory & Implementation and also Application Managed Services (AMS).

Now, let’s take a look at the solutions that are included as part of the Rise with SAP contract.

SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition:

S/4HANA is the flagship ERP product of SAP and S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition is the hosted version of it. SAP will host S/4HANA in a hyperscaler of customer’s choice and they will also take care of certain technical activities like system installation, High-availability and disaster recovery setup, system refreshes, client copies, Operating System and Database maintenance activities.

The other activities will be taken care of either by the customer or by the customer’s support partner.

System Hosting:

The S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition can be hosted in the SAP’s data centre and SAP also provides an opportunity for the customers to choose the hyperscalers of their own choice. The list of supported hyperscalers are Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Alibaba Cloud.

SAP Business Network:

This solution is based on SAP Ariba and the SAP Business Network offers features that enable customers to connect with trading partners involved in the source-to-pay process, including suppliers, carriers, and other stakeholders.

SAP BTP:

SAP BTP has become the epicentre of SAP’s cloud applications. It contains multiple functionalities such as the integration suite, database management, data management, application development, analytics and intelligent technologies.

As part of the Rise with SAP contract, the customers will receive cloud credits that can be used to explore and make use of some of the functionalities of SAP BTP.

Business Process Analysis & Automation:

License to use SAP Signavio is included within the Rise with SAP contract. Using Signavio, customers can design, analyse, benchmark and monitor their business processes. It also contains functionalities like Intelligent Robotic Process Automation using which manual and repetitive business processes can be automated.

Sustainability Solutions

SAP provides various sustainability solutions to customers of RISE with SAP, such as SAP Sustainability Footprint Management and SAP Sustainability Control Tower. These tools assist in tasks like tracking your carbon footprint and reaching sustainability objectives.

Other tools and services:

Apart from the previously mentioned products and solutions, SAP also offers some services that will help the customers to move from their ECC system or on-premises system to S/4HANA Cloud. Examples of some of these services include deployment assistance and removal of legacy code, supply chain process improvement, business scenario planning, and intelligent business design.

All these solutions and products are included as part of the Rise with SAP deal and it will expedite the customer’s journey to the cloud.

I hope this blog was useful and you got some idea about Rise with SAP. Please share it with your friends who might also benefit from this blog.

Thanks Aroon, this is very insightful.

Appreciate if you could clarify below:

    1. Is Rise applicable to customers who are already on S/4 HANA (on premise)?
    2. What about all the ABAP development, the Z-programs or the enhancements that are currently being done by the DEV/Functional team – will SAP take-over this?
    3. In terms of deployment, is it possible to have all application servers on the cloud while the data (HANA database) resides on premise at the customer’s?
    4. In terms of functionalities, what is the difference between S4 HANA Cloud and S4 HANA on Premise?
